The Rotary Club of Kenora has a long history of supporting the Lake of the Woods District Hospital. Since the early 1990s they’ve supported projects such as Patient Bedside Tables, a Mammography Unit, and the original CT scanner, to name just a few.
Recently they made another significant contribution – a remarkable $75,000 donation to the Beyond The Scan Campaign, bringing their cumulative giving to over $215,000!
“The Beyond The Scan Campaign has been an uproar in Kenora, and for good reason,” said Club Co-President, Laura Wheatley. “Our entire district needs this diagnostic equipment here and we wanted to be part of the community that brings it to the Hospital.”
“Our core value is ‘Service Above Self’ and it’s what we always try to embody as members of Rotary,” she continued. “We wanted to contribute to something impactful for our community, and this cause is relevant for every resident, of every age. Updating critical healthcare infrastructure will create lasting change – saving people time and money on travel, helping the environment by decreasing vehicle emissions and reducing the time it takes to get answers about medical care.”
“This campaign pushed our community to realize that we needed to do something and that we had the power to do it. It seemed like the original goal ($8.5M) was big, but we’ve had no problem achieving it because everyone has encouraged each other to invest in our community. We’re proud to be a part of the momentum and togetherness that we’ve witnessed over the past several months. We’re passionate about Kenora, and always working towards making our community better.”
