More than 30 women came together at SilverWolf Resort on Sunday, July 27, for the first-ever Clearwater Bay Women’s Retreat; a morning devoted to self-care, connection, and vital conversations about women’s health.
Hosted in partnership with SilverWolf Resort and the Lake of the Woods District Hospital (LWDH) Foundation, the retreat blended expert-led education, restorative movement, and nourishing food, fostering a shared commitment to wellness among both year-round and seasonal residents.
The morning opened with a presentation by Dr. Catherine Murray, Diagnostic Imaging Service Lead at LWDH, who shared insights on women’s health, common misconceptions and the hospital’s new state-of-the-art mammography unit. Guests then enjoyed an outdoor yoga session in SilverWolf’s pine grove, led by Aiyana Martens, followed by a locally sourced brunch prepared by Chef Sarah Howe.
Participants also heard from Dr. Allison Sweeney, Emergency Department Service Lead at LWDH, who offered practical tips on responding to medical emergencies at the lake and navigating care at Kenora’s emergency department.
“Emergencies can happen anywhere, and in remote settings like the lake, being prepared can make all the difference,” said Dr. Sweeney. “Simple steps, like having a well-stocked first aid kit and knowing where the nearest AED is, can help protect you and your loved ones until help arrives.”
The morning closed with remarks from Cheryl O’Flaherty, President & CEO of LWDH, emphasizing the hospital’s commitment to enhancing care for those who call this beautiful region home.
“This retreat was a beautiful reflection of what makes this community so special,” said Mira Trebilcock, Executive Director of the LWDH Foundation. “By coming together to learn, move, and share, we not only celebrated wellness but also deepened understanding of the vital healthcare services available in our region.”
“SilverWolf Resort is proud to host events that strengthen community connections,” added Brandon Millard, Manager of SilverWolf Resort. “Seeing women from across the region gather here for such meaningful conversations and uplifting experiences was incredibly rewarding.”
