When Marilyn Blanchette of Kenora answered the phone to learn she’d won the July Grand Prize Jackpot in the Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation’s monthly 50/50 lottery, her first reaction was one of complete surprise.
“Are you kidding?” she exclaimed.
Moments later, as the exciting news began to sink in that she had won $20,782.50, Marilyn graciously added, “Well thank you very much.”
Marilyn has been a loyal supporter of the Foundation’s monthly 50/50 lottery, making this win especially meaningful.
“Marilyn’s win is a wonderful reminder that every ticket gives you a chance to win,” said Mira Trebilcock, Executive Director of the Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation. “Whether you’ve been buying tickets for awhile like Marilyn, or you’re purchasing for the very first time, every ticket supports better healthcare close to home.”
The lottery excitement continues throughout August, with $1,000 Early Bird Draws on both August 14 and August 21. Ticket purchase deadlines for each Early Bird Draw are 11:59 p.m. CDT the night before.
The August Grand Prize Draw will take place on August 28. The jackpot is already close to $10,000 and will continue to grow until the end of the month. The deadline to purchase tickets for the Grand Prize Draw is 11:59 p.m. CDT on August 27.
Supporters who become Lake of the Woods Legends by subscribing to the Foundation’s monthly 50/50 ticket program continue to enjoy an added bonus. If a Legend wins either Early Bird Draw in August, they’ll receive an additional $500 in cash on top of the $1,000 prize.
Added Trebilcock, “While you don’t have to be a Lake of the Woods Legend subscriber to win, becoming a Legend means you’ll never miss a draw because your tickets are automatically purchased each month.”
The LWDHF 50/50 is a monthly charitable lottery that raises funds to support healthcare at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital. Every ticket purchased helps fund equipment and enhancements that improve patient care close to home.

Tickets can be purchased by anyone 18 years of age or older while in Ontario. Winners do not need to be present in Ontario. Grand Prize Draws award 50% of ticket sales each month.
