The Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation is celebrating its biggest 50/50 jackpot of 2026, and one lucky Kenora woman has 32,285 reasons to celebrate!
Kristine Gagne is the October Grand Prize winner of $32,285, taking home the largest jackpot awarded by the Foundation’s 50/50 draw so far this year.
A member of the Lake of the Woods Legends monthly subscription program, Kristine was pleasantly surprised when she received the exciting news on Friday morning. Still processing her unexpected windfall, she hadn’t made any immediate plans for the money, although she was already thinking about how she might use some of her winnings to help her son.
Kristine’s win also highlights the convenience of the Foundation’s Lake of the Woods Legends subscription program, which automatically renews ticket purchases each month, ensuring subscribers never miss their chance at the jackpot.
For the Foundation, Kristine’s win is particularly exciting because the record-setting jackpot represents something even bigger: growing support for exceptional healthcare close to home.
“This is such an exciting milestone for our 50/50, and we couldn’t be happier to celebrate it with Kristine,” said Mira Trebilcock, Executive Director, LWDH Foundation. “Every ticket purchased helps grow the jackpot and supports the healthcare services our community relies on. Seeing our jackpot reach a new high for 2026 is a wonderful reminder of what we can accomplish together.”
The Foundation’s 50/50 continues to gain momentum, with ticket purchasers from across Ontario joining local supporters for a chance to win big while making a meaningful difference for patients and families in Northwestern Ontario at Lake of the Woods District Hospital.
Thanks to supporters, a new ORCA Digester was recently purchased for the Food and Nutrition Services Department. The ORCA is a smart waste-management solution that lowers environmental impact and improves operational efficiency. It supports the Hospital’s green initiative by breaking down food waste directly at the source using a natural biological process. The system reduces waste hauling, storage, labour, and transportation emissions while helping staff better track and analyze food waste through built-in reporting technology. By identifying high-waste menu items, the Hospital can make informed changes that reduce waste, improve efficiency, and lower costs.
With October’s record-setting draw now in the books, the Foundation is looking ahead to November and another month of exciting opportunities to win.
November’s 50/50 features three chances to win:
- November 13: $1,000 Early Bird Prize
- November 20: $1,000 Early Bird Prize
- November 27: Grand Prize Jackpot – amount to be determined, but guaranteed at a minimum of $5,000.
Tickets purchased before the first Early Bird deadline are eligible for all three draws, giving participants even more chances to celebrate a big win.
The Foundation extends its sincere gratitude to everyone who purchased tickets in October, helping make this year’s largest jackpot possible.
