Kenora and Lake of the Woods Regional Community Foundation Generously Supports the Beyond The Scan Campaign with $100,000 Gift

Kenora, ON – Ever since the Beyond The Scan Campaign was launched on February 12, 2025, people, businesses, community groups and more have generously supported the campaign’s mandate to bring a fully-operational Diagnostic Imaging Centre of Excellence to the Lake of the Woods District Hospital. Proudly adding their support to the campaign is the Kenora and Lake of the Woods Regional Community Foundation, with a tremendous gift of $100,000, pledged over 5 years.

“Our Community Foundation recently launched a new strategic plan, and one of our goals is to support multi-year, high-impact projects for our community,” said President of the Board of Directors, Shannon Robinson. “Bringing an MRI, along with a new CT scanner, and advanced mammography equipment to Kenora is exactly the sort of project we envisioned funding, because it will build capacity to serve our community and our region’s needs.”

Continued Robinson, “It’s no secret that, inevitably, due to our remote location, we must travel, usually hours away, to access the care we require. We can all relate to the added layer of stress that travel adds to a journey that’s already likely quite stressful. Having this critical equipment will benefit all of us and strengthen our community.”

Vice-President, Darcia Curtis added, “The opportunity to partner with the Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation is incredibly important, not only for us as a Community Foundation, but for everyone. By working together and supporting projects that are vital for our community and surrounding communities, we are able to have a large impact; likely larger than one we could have made on our own. Our support of the new Diagnostic Imaging Centre of Excellence will address significant barriers for people in terms of access to medical care.”

Since 2004, the Community Foundation has granted over $5M to charities in the Kenora and Lake of the Woods Region. Recently, the Board of Directors reviewed how they are able to provide grant funding, and it was through this review that they were able to gift $100,000 – a larger amount than usual, over a 5-year period. “Generally people are used to the Community Foundation providing smaller, but numerous grants,” said Curtis. “We are still able to offer our usual grants to support local community initiatives, along with this significant commitment to the Hospital.”

Executive Director of the Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation, Mira Trebilcock, said, “The donation by the Community Foundation is a momentous gift toward a truly community-driven initiative. This leadership gift not only brings us closer to our campaign goal—it reflects the spirit of collaboration and collective care that defines Kenora. This support sends a powerful message about the importance of local investment in local healthcare, and we are incredibly grateful to the Community Foundation for helping to make this vision a reality.”
