“I had been thinking long and hard about how badly we needed an MRI,” said Kavan Mounk, General Manager, Riverview Industries. “It’s a topic that’s come up a lot in our shop. So many people we know have had to travel to either Winnipeg or Thunder Bay to get scans, including me. When I heard about the campaign to bring an MRI to Kenora, and that the FDC Foundation was matching donations, we knew we wanted to contribute.”
Riverview Industries started out as a small shop doing custom steel fabrication and has grown into a ‘one-stop fab shop’ for metal fabrication, serving both local and international markets. They’ve been supporting the Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation for many years, having previously given prizes for events, including the popular Par 3 Charity Challenge. But their $10,000 gift to the Beyond The Scan Campaign marked a new milestone for them; and it was knowing the significant impact it would have, not just for Kenora, but for people across the entire region, that they made the donation.
“It feels good to know that we have this technology coming to Kenora,” said Kavan. “I’m passionate about helping the area, having been born and raised here. Ultimately, I hope that having access to this advanced diagnostic technology will motivate more professionals to come to Kenora and that we can continue to develop the services provided in our community.”
And, as only someone with true ‘behind-the-scenes’ access would know, Kavan added, “You’d never know it when you walk into an MRI room and it looks all nice and clean, but behind those walls, and even within them, is a tremendous amount of hard work and steel!”
